California Direct Staff Requirements
2025
40-Hour Initial Training
State Requirements
40 hours of training for new caregivers, as mandated by Title 22. Includes 16 hours of hands-on training to be completed in the first four weeks of employment.
Pre-Service Training
20 hours must be completed before caregivers work independently, including:
- 6 hours of dementia care.
- 4 hours of postural supports, restricted conditions, and hospice care.

- Emergency preparedness and fire safety.
- Medications management and policies.
- Elder abuse and mandated reporting.
