1. RCFE Renewal Requirements

California RCFE Administrator Renewal Requirements

California RCFE administrators must complete approved continuing education to renew their administrator certification. 123CEU provides CDSS-approved RCFE continuing education courses designed to help administrators complete required renewal hours while building practical skills for daily facility operations.

RCFE continuing education may include training in dementia care, laws and regulations, resident assessment, medication management, staff supervision, resident rights, emergency preparedness, and other required Core of Knowledge subjects.

How Many RCFE Continuing Education Hours Are Required?

California RCFE administrators generally need 40 hours of CDSS-approved continuing education every two years. The renewal education plan must include required subject areas and a combination of live and self-paced instruction.

Administrators should generally plan for:

  • At least 8 hours related to dementia care
  • At least 4 hours related to laws, regulations, policies, and procedural standards
  • At least 20 hours of live instructor-led education
  • Up to 20 hours of approved self-paced education
  • No more than 10 hours counted in one day
  • Each course counted only once during a renewal period
