Resident Rights and Person Centered Care

This course is designed for caregivers and direct care staff working in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) in California. It provides a practical foundation in understanding and upholding resident rights while delivering person-centered care. The course emphasizes the importance of dignity, privacy, autonomy, and respect for each resident’s unique preferences and cultural background. Caregivers will learn how to recognize and support resident choices, facilitate effective communication, and advocate for residents’ needs within the framework of current Title 22 regulations.

Through real-world scenarios and interactive learning, participants will explore how to balance resident autonomy with safety and facility policies. The course covers informed consent, grievance procedures, and the caregiver’s role in supporting residents’ rights. Special attention is given to handling situations where resident wishes may conflict with safety or regulatory requirements. By the end of this course, caregivers will be equipped with practical strategies to foster a respectful, supportive, and person-centered environment for all residents.
