RCFE Shift Huddles, Handoffs & Escalation

This 1-hour online/self-paced course is designed for California Residential Care Facility for the
Elderly (RCFE) administrators seeking practical systems to improve staff supervision during shift
huddles, shift handoffs, and escalation of resident care concerns. The course provides a focused
overview of how administrators can structure staff communication to support accountability,
reduce missed follow-up, strengthen documentation practices, and improve operational oversight.
Participants will learn how to identify the minimum information that should be exchanged during
shift transitions, when issues must be escalated to supervisory staff or the administrator, and how
to reinforce staff responsibilities through consistent handoff expectations. The course emphasizes
supervision, delegation, and follow-through within the RCFE setting so that communication
failures do not become compliance or resident care failures.
