Family Engagement and Reunification Support

This course equips caregivers and direct support staff in group home settings with the essential skills and knowledge to support youth in maintaining and rebuilding family relationships. Family engagement is a critical component of youth well-being and successful reunification, and caregivers play a central role in facilitating safe, meaningful contact between youth and their families. The training covers practical strategies for preparing youth for family visits, supervising interactions, and coaching effective communication, all while maintaining healthy boundaries and ensuring safety for everyone involved. Special attention is given to the emotional complexities that can arise during family contact, as well as the importance of cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse family structures. By completing this course, caregivers will be better prepared to foster positive family connections, support youth through challenging emotions, and contribute to reunification efforts in compliance with both federal standards and California Title 22 regulations. Teaching Methods

Teaching methods will include the use of multiple video presentations, ebook, and PDF accompanying question/answer sections. Upon completion of the course, key points and references are available in a PDF format for students to refer to post-class and use in their business. A certificate of completion will be provided at the end of each course.

Method of Course Evaluation by Participants: 

There will be a required course evaluation form before a certificate is awarded.

Method of Evaluating Participants:

For each credit hour, there will be 4 quizzes consisting of 5 questions each pertaining to the testing of knowledge of the module.
