Evidence-Based Strategies for Documenting  Decline & Preventing Family Conflicts

This course equips California RCFE administrators with the essential skills and regulatory knowledge to proactively document resident decline and prevent family disputes, in full alignment with the NEW 2025 Title 22 CCR §87463 reappraisal requirements. Administrators increasingly face regulatory scrutiny and legal risk when families allege that changes in residents’ conditions were missed or inadequately communicated. This course addresses these challenges by integrating the latest Title 22 mandates with evidence-based assessment and communication strategies drawn from leading peer-reviewed research.

Participants will learn to recognize subtle indicators of physical, cognitive, and behavioral decline—often missed until families raise concerns—using validated cognitive-functional assessment principles. The course details precise, legally-defensible documentation protocols that satisfy CDSS complaint investigations and provide clear, objective records of resident changes, interventions, and communications. Administrators will master new structured meeting and notification requirements, ensuring timely and effective engagement with residents, families, and healthcare providers.

A core focus is bridging the perception gap between clinical documentation and family experience, using person-centered communication frameworks that foster trust and partnership rather than defensiveness. By implementing these strategies, administrators will not only meet regulatory compliance but also reduce the risk of complaints, strengthen family relationships, and protect their facilities from allegations of neglect. This course is designed exclusively for California RCFE administrators, with practical tools, scripts, and documentation templates ready for immediate use.
