Crisis Prevention and De-escalation

This course provides direct care staff in Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Programs (STRTP) with advanced skills in crisis prevention and de-escalation, specifically tailored to the needs of youth with mental health challenges. Caregivers will learn to identify early warning signs and environmental triggers that can lead to crisis situations, and implement practical strategies to prevent escalation. The training emphasizes the use of advanced verbal de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care practices, and safe, non-violent physical interventions only when absolutely necessary. Staff will also gain tools for therapeutic post-crisis processing to help youth recover and learn from incidents, reducing the likelihood of recurrence.

Designed to meet the latest California Title 22 requirements for STRTP caregivers, this course is structured in clear, practical modules that focus on real-world scenarios and person-centered approaches. The content is accessible and relevant for caregivers at all experience levels, supporting their ability to create a safer, more supportive environment for youth. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to handle crisis situations with greater confidence, compassion, and compliance with both state and federal standards.
