Behavioral Intervention and Positive Reinforcement

This course equips Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) caregivers with practical, evidence-based skills to support youth through effective behavioral intervention and positive reinforcement. Caregivers will learn how to recognize the underlying reasons for challenging behaviors, apply individualized behavior support plans, and use positive reinforcement strategies to encourage growth and positive change. The training focuses on real-world techniques such as token economies, natural consequences, and behavior modification methods that are appropriate for therapeutic residential settings. Emphasis is placed on person-centered care, celebrating progress, and adapting interventions to meet each youth’s unique needs.

Designed specifically for direct care staff in California STRTPs, this course aligns with the latest Title 22 regulations and federal compliance standards. It provides clear, step-by-step guidance for observing behavior, implementing interventions, and tracking progress, ensuring that caregivers feel confident and supported in their daily work. By the end of this course, participants will be able to foster a safe, supportive environment that promotes positive behavioral outcomes and enhances the well-being of youth in care.
