Advanced Dementia Care Behavioral Management and Family Communication
This course is designed for caregivers and direct care staff working in California Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) who already have a foundational understanding of dementia. The training focuses on advanced skills needed to manage challenging behaviors such as sundowning, wandering, and resistance to care, which are common in residents with moderate to advanced dementia. Caregivers will learn to implement non-pharmacological interventions that prioritize resident dignity, comfort, and safety. The course also emphasizes the importance of maintaining positive, respectful communication with families, involving them in care planning while upholding resident privacy and autonomy.
Participants will practice accurate documentation of behavioral patterns to support effective care plan adjustments and facilitate communication with healthcare professionals. By the end of the course, caregivers will be equipped to create structured daily routines that reduce anxiety and promote well-being for residents with dementia, ensuring compliance with California Title 22 and relevant federal standards. This training is practical, person-centered, and tailored specifically for the direct care workforce in RCFE settings.
