Activities of Daily Living and Life Skills Support

This course equips caregivers and direct support staff in Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) with practical skills to support residents in activities of daily living (ADLs) and life skills development. Designed specifically for California ARF caregivers, the training emphasizes person-centered approaches that foster independence, dignity, and confidence in residents. Participants will learn to assess individual abilities, provide the right level of assistance, and use adaptive techniques and technology to maximize resident participation in personal care, household tasks, and community activities.

The course covers effective teaching strategies such as task analysis and step-by-step instruction, enabling caregivers to teach rather than do for residents. Real-world scenarios and best practices are integrated to help staff create supportive learning environments and recognize opportunities for skill-building throughout daily routines. By the end of the course, caregivers will be able to confidently apply Title 22 regulations and federal standards to promote resident autonomy, safety, and quality of life. This training is essential for any ARF caregiver seeking to enhance their practical skills and meet compliance requirements in California.
