Specialized Populations and Dual Diagnosis

This course is designed for direct care staff working in Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Programs (STRTPs) who support youth with dual diagnoses or specialized needs, such as developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, or co-occurring substance use disorders. The training provides practical guidance on adapting care techniques, communication strategies, and intervention methods to meet the unique needs of these populations. Emphasis is placed on understanding sensory sensitivities, behavioral adaptations, and the importance of individualized, person-centered support.

Participants will learn how to coordinate with multiple service providers and integrate various treatment approaches, ensuring that each youth receives comprehensive and cohesive care. The course also covers environmental modifications and adaptive strategies to create supportive, safe, and inclusive living spaces. By the end of the course, caregivers will be better equipped to recognize and respond to the complex needs of youth with dual diagnoses, fostering a more therapeutic and empowering environment. This training is fully aligned with California Title 22 regulations for STRTP direct care staff and incorporates relevant federal standards, making it essential for anyone providing direct support in these settings.
