Solo Agers & Residents Without Family: Operational Strategies

This course equips California RCFE administrators with the essential knowledge and operational strategies needed to support solo agers—residents who lack family involvement or local support. As the population of solo agers rapidly increases, administrators face new legal, ethical, and practical challenges, including heightened liability, unclear decision-making authority, and increased risk of resident isolation. This course addresses these challenges by providing actionable guidance on pre-admission assessments, professional boundaries, conservatorship processes, and emergency protocols tailored specifically for solo agers. Administrators will learn to build effective community partnerships, develop resident support networks, and implement documentation systems that ensure compliance with Title 22 and federal regulations.

Designed exclusively for California RCFE administrators, the course emphasizes inspection readiness, person-centered care, and regulatory compliance. Participants will gain practical tools for identifying solo agers, managing medical and end-of-life decisions without family input, and protecting both residents and facilities from legal and operational risks. By the end of this training, administrators will be prepared to confidently navigate the complexities of serving solo agers, ensuring high-quality care and regulatory adherence in an evolving residential care landscape.
