Housekeeping and Sanitation Principles for Residential Care

This course equips caregivers working in Adult Residential Facilities (ARF) with essential knowledge and practical skills to maintain clean, safe, and healthy living environments for residents. Focusing on the unique needs of adult care settings, the training covers infection control, proper use of cleaning chemicals, and effective sanitation protocols. Caregivers will learn how to identify and prevent sources of contamination, implement daily and periodic cleaning routines, and respond to spills or outbreaks in a manner that protects both residents and staff. The course also addresses the importance of balancing strict cleanliness standards with respect for residents’ dignity, privacy, and personal space, ensuring that the environment remains both safe and home-like.

Designed specifically for direct care staff in California ARFs, this training aligns with the latest Title 22 regulations and integrates best practices from federal guidelines. Participants will gain confidence in using cleaning equipment safely, understanding product labels, and applying infection prevention strategies tailored to the residential care context. By the end of the course, caregivers will be prepared to uphold high standards of environmental health, reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections, and contribute to the overall well-being and comfort of residents with diverse health conditions and abilities.
