Family Therapy Support and Communication

This course is designed for direct care staff working in Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Programs (STRTP) in California. It focuses on equipping caregivers with practical skills to support family therapy goals and foster healthy communication between youth and their families. The training emphasizes the caregiver’s role in reinforcing therapeutic concepts from family sessions, coaching youth in effective communication, and preparing them for productive family interactions.

Staff will learn how to help youth process their experiences before and after family therapy, practice new communication strategies, and align daily care with the goals set by family therapists. The course also covers understanding family dynamics, respecting cultural differences, and maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries. By completing this course, caregivers will be better prepared to create a supportive environment that encourages positive family relationships and contributes to the overall well-being and progress of the youth in their care.
