Emergency Procedures and Crisis Response

This course equips caregivers and direct care staff in residential care settings with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to respond confidently and effectively to emergencies. Focusing on real-world scenarios, the training covers recognition of medical emergencies, immediate response protocols, and coordination with emergency medical services. Participants will learn to manage common emergencies such as falls, choking, cardiac events, and severe behavioral crises, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.

The course emphasizes hands-on techniques, including basic first aid and CPR, and guides staff through the steps of safe resident evacuation and crisis management. It also addresses the importance of maintaining composure, clear communication, and accurate documentation during and after emergencies. All content is tailored specifically for caregivers working in California RCFEs, reflecting the latest Title 22 requirements and best practices. By the end of this training, caregivers will be prepared to act quickly, communicate effectively with families and healthcare teams, and document incidents in compliance with state and federal standards.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methods will include the use of multiple video presentations, ebook, and PDF accompanying question/answer sections. Upon completion of the course, key points and references are available in a PDF format for students to refer to post-class and use in their business. A certificate of completion will be provided at the end of each course.

Method of Course Evaluation by Participants: 

There will be a required course evaluation form before a certificate is awarded.

Method of Evaluating Participants:

For each credit hour, there will be 4 quizzes consisting of 5 questions each pertaining to the testing of knowledge of the module.
