This two-hour CEU course equips Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) administrators with the essential legal, ethical, and practical tools needed to manage resident discharges in compliance with federal and California state regulations. Administrators frequently encounter challenging situations where a resident’s continued placement is no longer viable—whether due to non-payment, behaviors beyond facility capacity, or threats to the safety and well-being of others. Navigating these scenarios requires a deep understanding of lawful discharge procedures, the distinction between legal discharge and illegal eviction, and the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and regulatory bodies.
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of Title 22 CCR §87465 and Health & Safety Code §1569.680, including the 30-day written notice requirement and its exceptions. The course also addresses the emotional intelligence and crisis communication skills necessary to handle family confrontations, mitigate lawsuit threats, and maintain dignity and respect for all parties involved. Through real-world scenarios and best practices, administrators will learn to conduct retention assessments, coordinate safe and compliant relocations, and protect resident rights throughout the discharge process.
